One of the things that I do every day is taking our dogs for a dog walk. Regardless of the weather I will get out there. If there is a day that for whatever reason I am not able to get out of the house and into the fresh air, I get quite antsy. I, like all humans, need that fresh air every day. It has physical and mental benefits for us. It is something that we are meant to do and have done for forever time. Only recently people have become more and more sedentary and that is not a good thing. People have developed more and more chronic illness and mental health is at an all time low.
Walking in itself will help us become more fit by using our cardio vascular system. Lungs get the chance to exchange out the stale resident air and our blood gets pumping, transporting all that oxygen rich blood to all the extremities of our body. Muscles get trained and keep our physical support system in good shape. Having strong muscles provides for good posture and less pains and aches due to a deterioration of that. Fluids get pumped through joints also reducing fluid build up and as such reducing joint aches.
Having all that oxygen rich blood circulating through your body and your brain also makes you really wake-up. It is a moment to start thinking about your day but also to get rid of the cobwebs in your mind. It puts things in perspective. I think humans are meant to walk when they want to come up with great thoughts. Somehow these two things go really well together. I also truly believe that all things are connected. Our energy connects with that in the natural world and the interactions can be felt when being outside. I could not explain how the connection works but I feel that it exists. I feel so very much connected and at ease in a green environment. That is why I feel happy when I return from walks.
Obviously taking furry friends with you makes for a lot of cheer as well. Dogs are always happy and ready to please you. Every day there are new things to explore on their beaten track. Seeing their happiness rubs off on yourself and makes you wonder why we actually fuzz. According to dogs there is totally no need for that. Just be nice to your bosses and your bowl will be filled each and every day and your pillow will be close to the stove. And if you are really nice you might even earn a spot in the master's bed! I often think that they must really wonder what a weird species humans really are!
